Advent is chock full of good hymns: ” On Jordan’s Bank The Baptist’s Cry ,” ” Come Thou Long Expected Jesus ,” ” O Come, O Come Emmanuel ,” and many more. But my favorite, hands down, is “Lo! He Comes with Clouds Descending.” I have many fond memories of First Sundays in Advent, belting it out as the processional hymn with loud Episcopalian organs and choirs ringing out around me. So I was very excited to see a lengthy discussion of the hymn on the blog of Sally Thomas, a frequent FT contributor. She gives many versions of the hymn, and includes lyrics I had never known existed. Her discussion prompted me to look around and find this lovely version of the tune (Note the academic hood that the organist is wearing, presumably because this was filmed around an Evensong service). Just a few more weeks until Stir Up Sunday . . . .
