It is reported that Douglas Kmiec has been nominated to be ambassador to Malta. For Malta? It profits a man nothing to give his soul for the whole world. But for Malta?

So Kmiec has sold his soul simply because he supported a candidate you did not like? Give me one instance where he did evil. Give me once instance where he dissented from Catholic teaching. And while you are peering into souls, perhaps you need to look closer to home – to the neocon arguments expressed on these pages.

Thank you for posting the scene from ” A Man for All Seasons”. ” For Wales” or “for Malta”. Ritchie , Kmiec and too many these days are, in essence, the same men.

No, that’s not why people say Kmiec sold his soul, but you’d know that if you read the comments on your own blog. Kmiec repeatedly made strained and frankly absurd arguments on behalf of Obama, even going so far as to call him the true pro-life candidate.

As for open dissent on Church teaching, look no further than his 180 on gay marriage.

Morning Minion must not have a good handle on Catholic teaching to think Kmiec didn’t violate it. Maybe God plans on Malta teaching Kmiec about Catholic teaching on abortion.

Calling Obama a pro-life candidate is ridiculous, but no more ridiculous than wrapping the candidates offered up by the other side in the pro-life mantle. Was Bush pro-life? Most assuredly not. McCain? No.

To call Obama the true pro-life candidate is evil.
And then to make the case -continually- in writing as Kmiec did more than dances on the edge of grave sin. He tangoed with it.

Only a fool would believe as well as declare John McCain and Bush were not pro-life.

Thanks for the clip! Same thing I thought when I saw that Kmiec had gotten the post to Malta. He sold his soul very cheaply, indeed! His contortions to justify his support of Obama’s policies must leave him looking like a pretzel. Maybe this assignment will give him some badly needed quiet time with his God.

It’s an interesting premise. Does it assume that it’s insufficient to be pro-life, unless one adheres to the party line? Does it assume that True Believers are martyrs merely for hammering away at the cause? What have they sacrificed to be Republicans … political credibility? Do you suppose George Weigel will pen another Diplomacy 101 column for Mr Kmiec? Do they know their history, that Thomas More did not wish a confrontation with the King and hoped to avoid trouble for all with a quiet retirement? Malta is a lot closer to Rome than most neocons/theocons will ever get.

Malta is too good for Kmiec. If I were a Maltese, I’d feel insulted.

Be that as it may, I’m praying that the spirit of St. Paul turns this wicked man around, even if it requires a shipwreck.
