Over at Instapundit, in the course of calling David Frum a Gloomy Gus, Glenn Reynolds writes:
conservatives and libertarians should be feeling a lot better than they did a few months ago, as the Obama aura is dissipating much faster than even the most optimistic might have expected.
Is this right? I know that, in recent days, I have been more optimistic about the turning-back of at-least the worst ideas for health-care reform and cap-and-trade, but do others feel the same?

Well – maybe. In the SF Bay Area, it is lonely being immune to Obama’s charms. My initial reaction to him was: people are falling for THIS? THIS is ’smart’? ‘Different’? And so, personally, the unfolding (unraveling) of this administration seems a bit like Polanski’s ‘The Tenant’ – you know from the start it will end badly, but just how badly and it what final twisted form you have to watch to the end to see.
So, yes, on the one hand: Obama’s grip on the national throat seems to be weakening. But, on the other, the current state we find ourselves in is as much the result of the frustrations and (blind) hope of millions of Americans as it is of Obama’s elusive ‘charms’ – we do sometimes get the government we deserve.
So maybe things are looking up – maybe the worst of Obama’s act can be dodged now that he’s showing a little less invulnerability. But the underlying issue is: what kind of nation are we that would elect such a man in the first place? The much to be hoped for fall of Obama will not solve that problem.

The Martha’s Vineyard vacation isn’t going to go over well with the (increasingly unemployed) populace. It’s “date night” on steroids.
As a contrast, the Queen canceled the majority of her Jubilee celebrations and told her family to cool it on lifestyle when England went into recession.
Obama’s aura is dimming. What I can’t fathom is that Bill and Hillary Clinton appear to have more class than the Obamas.

Exactly.

Yesterday, in fiddling with the remote while I waited for the local news, I came upon “Judge Judy.” Fascinating. An apparently large courtroom full of–”omygosh,” I thought, “Obama voters,” with a no-nonsense conservative on the bench, obviously and vocally disgusted. After a few minutes, I moved on to another channel.
