Karen Novak slipped away this morning—a great artist, a good friend, the beloved wife of Michael Novak, and convivial presence at so many of our events.

You can find some of her artwork described on her website. But even they don’t capture her fun, her spirit, or how much we will miss her.

In a long year of loss, it’s come to seem that hearses have besieged our gates, while long funerals blacken all the way. And now this. The viewing is tentatively scheduled for Friday in Washington, with the funeral on Saturday. Details will follow as I learn them. Keep Karen and Michael in your prayers.

Karen was a woman of grace and gallantry, and a true Christian warrior. She was a strong and supportive wife, a caring mother of three successful children and a true friend. And in the midst of her rich family life, she created a body of artistic work of beauty and enduring meaning. R.I.P.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.
