Or take another event I recall clearly--Eisenhower&#039;s first inauguration as President.  57 years before that, 1895--roughly the time of William Jennings Bryan&#039;s &quot;Cross of Gold&quot; speech.  Eisenhower does seem closer to us than WJB&#039;s speech seems to Eisenhower.]]></description>
