Or take another event I recall clearly–Eisenhower’s first inauguration as President. 57 years before that, 1895–roughly the time of William Jennings Bryan’s “Cross of Gold” speech. Eisenhower does seem closer to us than WJB’s speech seems to Eisenhower.
