I was interviewed a few weeks ago by NRO’s John Miller about my forthcoming book, A Rat is a Pig is a Dog is a Boy: The Human Cost of the Animal Rights Movement. We discuss the difference between animal rights and animal welfare, human exceptionalism, the ongoing devaluation of human life, and about my friendship with novelist Dean Koontz, who very kindly wrote the preface. Check it out.

I’m not surprised that Koontz is providing the preface for your anti-animal rights book. I used to read his novels until I discovered his hatred for animal advocacy through the gratuitous anti-animal rights rants and evil pro-animal characters he injected into his plots. Koontz is a classic welfarist who makes a big deal about his love for dogs, but otherwise he displays no compassion for or understanding of animal suffering whatsoever. And I would dispute your title because in reality there’s a big human cost to allowing animals to suffer and die at the hands of humans, particularly in the areas of biomedical research and factory farming, in terms of health and the environment. So if for no other than self-serving human reasons, you should actually be supporting animal rights!

I am thrilled that there is a book coming out to further educate the public about the terrible agenda of the animal rights organizations. The animal rights organizations TALK about their interest in protecting animals and preventing suffering, and they do a tremendous amount of fundraising on those issues. BUT what is interesting is that they do not use those funds for the animals…they use the funds to pay high salaries to their staffers, to initiate lawsuits against government agencies, tying up staffers time so they cannot do their jobs, and they promote local ordinances to control or restrict animal owners and breeders, they lobby for state laws to do the same, and the lobby for federal laws which will eventually eliminate animal ownership, animal agriculture, and any contact with animals. Is this insane? It is also a way to CONTROL the public. Animal rights are about control, not animal welfare.THANKS for a book on the subject! I look forward to reading it.

Thank goodness more and more people are educating others about the fact that animal rights is not motivated by love for animals but by hatred for humans. These people are damaged individuals who attempt to force their own idea of the world order on everyone else. Their preferred attack method is well demonstrated by VegLib above: “If you don’t buy into my philosophy, you are evil.” Fortunately the world is waking up to the lies and manipulations of this movement. I’m really looking forward to reading this book — and I’ll go out to get the newest Koonz tomorrow. I’ve been reading him for years. His love for dogs and (sorry VegLib) his compassion for all animals shines through, I reoommend his books highly.

Fabulous! This, along with Nathan Winograd’s book “Irreconcilable Differences” are must-reads for anyone wanting to know the truth behind the Animal Rights movement–that it’s not about “saving” animals, but the purposeful extermination of all domesticated animals, and the complete destruction of the American economy and individual civil liberties which stand in the way of that agenda. “We have no problem with the extinction of domestic animals”–Wayne Pacelle, President of HSUS

Reading the comments about ar groups not working for the animals; give your head a shake. HSUS and others do a tremendous job. If you think it’s okay to keep animals in the equivalent of an iron maiden for their entire life, you are an extremist & callous to say the least. Chickens are not considered as animals by gov so for those poor creatures, anything goes. What do you think Jesus would say about all this. These are His creatures. All creatures great and small.

Catherine King- with all due respect, you need to do some investigation of what AR groups actually do for animals. Please check out the Center for Consumer Freedom. Yes, they are extremists as well, but they have links to verifiable, published evidence of what the AR groups really do with all their millions of dollars in donations. I hope you will be open minded enough to read some of their material.

As for the book, I am excited and will be ordering from Amazon the second it’s available!
