Raymond de Souza demolishes the awful New York Times story attacking Pope Benedict:
The story is false. It is unsupported by its own documentation. Indeed, it gives every indication of being part of a coordinated campaign against Pope Benedict, rather than responsible journalism.

My father-in-law used to say, mess with a skunk and you may win, but you’re going to smell bad anyway.
Weakland was not only guilty of “maladministration”, but malfeasance of a worse kind. He led his flock away from the tenets of the faith, and publicly thumbed his nose at his Catholic superiors in the bargain.
The idea that he should get any credibility for his perverted memoir, and be given the power by the likes of the Times to make more trouble for Rome is simply repugnant.

When I was a lad in the fifties, the good sisters used to tell us how the communists were infiltrating seminaries, thus making “real priests” out of dedicated communists. ’nuff said.
