My friend Dimitri Cavalli pointed me to an article in Foreign Policy—and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a gap this big between a deliberate title and an essay:

“Why Did the Pope Keep Quiet About the Holocaust?” is the title. Now read the text—and see how you could possibly get to that title from the essay on Bishop Galen that follows.

    A’ight – is anyone else as excited as I am at how much Joseph Bottom we’re getting at firstthoughts just now (and, it is to be hoped, in future?).

    Although I should spell his name right Joseph Bottum. That was not a dig, my fingers have their own spelling rules.

    I’m sure not, John. That Bottum character writes slow and strange, like a overcooked molasses.
