In the official White House proclamation for Father’s Day, President Obama throws in what looks like a surprisingly casual cheer for same-sex unions, as “two father” families: “nurturing families come in many forms, and children may be raised by a father and mother, a single father, two fathers, a step father, a grandfather, or caring guardian.”
But in his fatherhood mentoring program, announced at the same time, he calls for obtaining fathers for more families.
Doesn’t that mean we need to be spreading out those fathers, instead of letting them bunch up this way?

Barack Obama the president (with speech writers and teleprompters) on fathers:
“Fathers are our first teachers and coaches, mentors and role models. They push us to succeed, encourage us when we are struggling, and offer unconditional care and support. Children and adults alike look up to them and learn from their example and perspective.”
Barack Obama the candidate on being a father sans teleprompter and speech writer:
“Look, I got two daughters — 9 years old and 6 years old,” he said. “I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby. I don’t want them punished with an STD at age 16, so it doesn’t make sense to not give them information.”
