Mr. Odinga claims to be his cousin, also claimed to be in nearly daily contact with Obama during Obama's presidential campaign (at least early on). But hey, if he's not "really" a cousin, that is the least important aspect of this story. It certainly is the most trivial of all the possible counts against Mr. Odinga's character that he would claim Barack Obama is his cousin.

Citation? The siblings of Barack Obama Sr. have denied that Odinga's mother was one of them. And I'm not sure where the claim that Obama campaigned for Odinga comes from.

It is too typical but nonetheless disturbing that Time Magazine puts the blame for violence and the threat of violence on "the sort of language" that caused the violence in 2008.

The current prime minister, Raile Odinga lost the election for president in December 2007. His followers were responsible for the unrest that followed which caused the displacement and deaths of so many people in early 2008. Time magazine doesn't mention the fact that the "unrest" included the burning of a church, with its parishioners inside, and that Odinga had signed a secret agreement with Muslims in one part of the country to basically run that part of the country according to Shari'a law- in exchange for their support, of course. Raile Odinga is a hard-core Marxist. His cousin, then-Senator Barack Obama campaigned for him in 2007.

Off hand, I would say, given Odinga's propensity for violence and his agreements with the Muslims, the Church leaders probably have a point.
