MLK’s dream did not come true.
Jim Crow was replaced by Black Privelage and perpetual grievance politics for the purpose of increasing power over white society.
Albert Camus was right.
“Every slave wants to wear the crown.”

Yesterday I read the King James version of the Sermon of the Mount and was struck with the idea of its importance in human history. Even though that history shows that we have in so many ways failed to practice what Jesus preached, I am certain that his words changed humanity for the better. Like so many people, I believe, more than anything else, that those words as unrealistic as many modern people seem to find them, are the hope that surpasses all other earthly promises.
Today I listened to Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream speech” and read his ‘Letter from Birmingham Jail’ on First Things. I am grateful for your decision to post them. Even if the country never reaches the heights Dr. King espoused, it is better for having had him speak of them. I am also convinced that only someone as familiar with the Sermon on the Mount as Dr King was could have written such a speech and letter.
