Michael J. New points out that the House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on an important pro-life measure today:
Today, the House of Representatives will likely be voting on H.R. 3, the Protect Life Act, sponsored by Rep. Joe Pitts (R., Pa.). This piece of legislation would prevent federal funding of abortion through Obamacare. This is important to pro-lifers because Obamacare created a number of funding streams which may result in taxpayer subsidized abortions. For instance, funds appropriated through Obamacare may subsidize health insurance plans purchased through state level exchanges which cover abortion. Additionally, Obamacare might subsidize abortion through funds appropriated for either community health centers or high-risk pools. The Protect Life Act insures that none of these funding streams would directly pay for abortions.
Not surprisingly, history’s most pro-abortion presidential administration released this statement: “If the President is presented with H.R. 358, his senior advisors would recommend that he veto the bill.” As National Right to Life’s Dave Andrusko says, “Why fight so vigorously a law to limit abortion-expanding provisions in ObamaCare if supposedly they don’t even exist? The man is shameless.”

I thought we were having problems with not enough money for all the sick people who need care?

Good for this bill, but I think more attention needs to be given to the problem of private plans that fund abortions using the premiums of all customers – a serious problem for the self-insured, particularly in areas where one company has a near-monopoly on self-insurance plans. Many who (rightly) complain about this issue with the government ignore it for private plans.

Isn’t the problem more of the issue that abortion is allowed, and not about funding? Is this all a bunch of smoke?

Isn’t it great at a time when the economy is going to hell and people are marching on the streets in an attempt to get our lawmakers to unfasten their suckling lips from the teat of Wall Street and stop legislating to the benefit of the 1% and start focusing on the 99% — our GOP-controlled House of Representatives refuses to take their eye off the ball and passes landmark legislation that will serve their constituency — and by that, I mean the small percentage of insane Americans who support “life” until it’s actually “born” and then “you’re on your own!”
Way to go, Republicans! We’ll try to remind everyone about your heroic actions next November.

Why is it that MEN are so interested in the anti-abortion legislation? It is a woman’s issue, and women want the right to take care of their own bodies. If we, as a country, decide that women DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHTS TO THEIR BODIES, then let’s just order the burkas and be done with it.
