The popularity of Robert Latimer in Canada—the man who murdered his daughter because she had cerebral palsy—rightfully terrified the disability rights community and indeed, anyone concerned with human equality. That so many people embraced a father who asphyxiated his daughter in a car—while at the same, the world rightfully branding Susan Smith a monster for drowning her able-bodied children because her boyfriend didn’t like them—illuminated a pernicious anti disability and pro quality of life ethic that is infecting Western culture.  Latimer and Smith did the very same things. One was applauded and the other had to be protected from an angry crowd.

Now, the indefatigable Alex Schadenberg of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition highlights a program that, he says, rewrote the history of the Latimer murder beyond that which has already been done.  From his blog:

The 16 x 9 story omits significant facts in its attempt to sympathetically re-write the history of the Latimer case.  Latimer was offered a permanent care space for Tracy, but turned the offer down because he had already decided to kill her. The show ignores the fact that Tracy went to school, loved music, and was well aware of her surroundings. The show omitted the fact that the Supreme Court of Canada unanimously decided that Latimer should serve the mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in jail for second degree murder.

Well, of course. When one is pushing the euthanasia agenda, facts mitigating against killing as the solution get disappeared into the ether.  And note: Traci was not terminally ill.

Those interested in euthanasia should follow Alex’s blog.  He really has his finger on the pulse.
