This thoughtful Yuval Levin article doesn’t exactly contradict what Walter Russell Mead wrote about Romney earlier in the week, but it does suggest a different emphasis for Romney’s campaign.  Romney’s main challenge isn’t to get people to like and understand him better through a better and more sympathetic understanding of the Mormon faith.  Romney’s challenge is to show that he understands people’s reasonable anxieties and that he has reasonable plans to address those anxieties.  Being a rich guy isn’t an insuperable obstacle to getting people to believe he has some idea of what is going on in their lives.

I’m tired.  More about this tomorrow.  Your thoughts are welcome in the comments.
