My first thought was that in essence, The Filioque already exists within The Eastern Orthodox Church's Creed.

Since it is true that The Eastern Orthodox believe that there is only One Father, only One Son Of The Father, and only One Holy Spirit, then in the ordered, complementary communion of Perfect Love that is The Blessed Trinity, The Holy Spirit must be The Spirit of Love between The Father and The Son and thus must proceed from The Father and The Son.

I think the White House also add the comprimise that the Orthodox would not have to implement this change for 1 year in order to allow the eparchs to explain to the faithful why this is what they have always believed.

When the Orthodox sue, the administration makes vague representations that it will change the rule and puts a vacuous entry in the Federal Register to evade judicial review.

That's pretty dark. 'Barack Obama, even on his worst day he's not as bad as we were.'

I mean replace Obama in this story for Constantine IX and you have the schism in a nutshell.

I have two solutions:

1. They can keep the Filioque out of the creed if they pay a fine----$250 per parishioner the first year, rising to $2,000 per parishioner by 2016.

2. During recitation of the creed, some rented Catholics could say the word "Filioque" while the Orthodox congregation itself skips the word. That way, they aren't REALLY violating their consciences and that's OK, isn't it?
