The deep wound in the Body of Christ which is the split in Christianity is far more devastating than most realize. We grow up accepting the state of things as we find them.

But we must reject the split and work for unity. Not only because our Founder prayed fervently for it (and thus the split is a rebuke to the Lord's very face), but because the mission is severely (perhaps fatally) compromised by the scandal of division. For when we confront the secular culture, as it is clearly urgent for us to do, with truth claims, they can easily sneer and respond, "Which of many competing, contradictory truths are you claiming?"

Agree that the blame for the rupture goes across both sides. The duty to mend it falls on all our shoulders as well.
