Regarding the three concerns: 1) Capitalism's comfort with hedonism and consumerism is well documented. However, I would point out that these economic times (the worst of my lifetime) have not reduced these two pursuits. 2) We need to be careful throwing around terms like "just wage". These were used at a different time when there was one "breadwinner" and "economic justice" was patterned for the good of the family. Such talk now would invite all sorts of suspicion. It is clear that if we reduce the scope of government, many things (tuition, health care, insurance) would become more affordable. 3) As to the unfortunate misdirection of our charitable giving, perhaps this is an area where we should do a better job educating our fellow citizens and help change their "minds and hearts".
