I tend to agree with JERD.

I've been reading Children of Men by PD James, about the Quietus. I'm just to the point where Julian finds out she is pregnant. Don't know how it ends. I know it's just a story, but...

Compare to Life of Julia, an official Obama advertisement for the future.

I believe in this election, Obama has won the Omega vote.

Infertility, kitten christenings, the government is the only thing we all belong to.

The Left is winning the race for the hearts and minds of callow, childless youth.

This will go the way of the same sex marriage issue.

At first, vestiges of a christian culture will hold secular forces at bay, and these measures to radically alter society will fail. But in time, as the cultural trinity of media, academia and politics press forward, the christian fortress will yield. It is only a matter of time before the purpose of marriage will be forgotten, and then later to follow, the purpose of life itself.

As a Massachusetts resident, I'm rather astounded by Mr. Smith's assessment, which makes the rejection of the assisted suicide proposal sound like a breakthrough victory for opponents.

Forty-nine percent of the voters APPROVED of the measure -- were in favor of making assisted suicide legal in this state. Fifty-one percent opposed.

Mr. Smith writes "opponents to assisted suicide look like America, whereas leading proponents look more like the 1%." In Massachusetts, almost exactly half of the electorate AGREED with the 1%.

This question will be back on the ballot in the not-too-distant future, I think. And I don't see much that indicates a solid bulwark against it.

"MA is a very liberal state, but it also retains a strong Catholic identity"

And how has this "Catholic Identity" affected public policy in Massachusetts? I'm sorry but I see no objective support for this question.

The identity of Massachusetts is Ivy politics, not Catholicism.

I'll bet Victoria Kennedy carries more weight than any Cardinal.
