I recently dissuaded an old friend fom getting a hedgehog. She thought that, like many small animals, they only lived 2-5 years when they can live for 12 or more.

Our house is currently critterless, and for the first time since I was in high school. It’s a bit lonely. I’m landing to visit a local shelter before Christmas.

Also, people often buy pets, oddly enough, due to it being Easter (rabbits and chicks), or because one came out in a movie or show (E.g., “G-Force” had an elite squad of guinea pig spies).

Right now I’m a “foster friar” to a pair of guinea pigs, because their previous child owner grew bored and tired of the responsibility. So here they are, until we can find a “forever home” for them. Please let children know that responsibility is not temporary — it is for the life of the pet.
