A comprehensive collection of reactions to the recent encyclical.

A collection of pre-release articles and posts on the encyclical.

In 1995, Michael Novak wrote a lecture on the subject of “Caritas and Economics.” The original text is reprinted here in the hopes that it will shed further light on the widespread reflection on caritas and economics about to be requested by Benedict XVI’s upcoming encyclical.

Having recently re-read Populorum Progressio, which I found to speak strongly to us in these times, I welcome Pope Benedict’s re-reading for modern times. Our “right to excess” is being rightfully curbed.

In choosing to list other writings to consider and review while reading “Caritas et Veritate,” I’m wondering if you shouldn’t also suggest reading the U.S. Catholic Bishop’s Pastoral Letter: “Economic Justice For All.” The Bishop’s pastoral letter seems more relevant to Charity in Truth than some of the other suggested writings on the list.
