Early World, Our World

The world of Genesis can appear to be an alien world. It’s full of strange institutions, unknown names and peoples.

But for the author of Hebrews, the world of Genesis is the world of Christians. More than half of his great chapter on faith (Hebrews 11) is taken up with a review of Genesis. Eight of the named heroes of faith in Hebrews 11 are taken from the book of Genesis. 

The world of Genesis is the world in which God makes promises that are not yet fulfilled. It’s a world of faith, which is the substance of things not seen.

To this degree, the world of Genesis is our world.
