I am plowing through Kirk's "The Conservative Mind" right now. Not exactly the kind of read that most people do in their spare time, but truly fascinating exploration of the development of conservative thought. It has certainly exposed me to names I otherwise wouldn't have known or studied. A super informative read so far. I will check out some of the other books you mention here. Thanks for the list.

On the Unseriousness of Human Affairs, Fr. James V. Schall- Life, faith and education as an adventure to be puzzled over but savored too.

The Moviegoer, Walker Percy- "to be aware of the search is to be on to something"

Orthodoxy, G.K. Chesteron - the opening metaphor about thinking one has discovered a new country and discovering it is actually home

Where I'm Calling From, Raymond Carver
The Collected Stories of Flannery O'Connor
Up in the Old Hotel, Joseph Mitchell

-life is strange, boring, incredible, puzzling, often cruel . . . but full of lessons if we look for them.
