Janice,
Your last sentence is priceless. Even though Darwin teaches the truth about who I am, why should I do what he says! Believe me, I'm on your side, as most of the sophisticated world is. But that might be an indication that Darwin doesn't teach the whole truth.

Loved it, Janice.

Might as well blame Newton for the youth obesity epidemic. After all, these kids are just products of the darwinio-newtonian-scientismist secular school system that teaches them they are made of matter, and hence the ultimate point of existence is to increase one's "gravitational significance".

I assumed that this point was lucid enough in my most recent paper for you, however, from the looks of this, apparently not. My point being: the effectual truth, the life giving deadly truth, the profound abyss, the eternal return, the non-mechanistic will to power... whatever you wish to call it has pervasive effects and undermines truths. We have this problem. the philosopher of the future in his solitude sees this problem and proclaims "down with manipulation." However, the self-proclaimed Nietzsche follower Strauss was more practical than Nietzsche, he knew that manipulation would continue and that it should be "driven" in the right direction. Strauss at least knew his ambition was a lie, the great noble lie -- which is more I can say for most. So I guess my question in response to your excellent essay here is how do we really rank manipulations whether it be the manipulation of a falsified scientific dogma, or a Pascalian Cartesian religious ideology? Or even the inane ravings of Deleuze's simulacra. Strauss was surely right that while it might be hard to rank different forms manipulation it is even harder to overcome to necessity of manipulation. I only wonder if he chose the right antidote?

<blockquote>… My ultimate point in life is to successfully spread my genes.

Peter, it is fallacious to infer this from the truth of evolution. Even though the “successful spread of my genes” would increase my evolutionary significance, this doesn’t obviously give me a reason to attempt to successfully spread my genes. Likewise, even if going a week without showering would increase my olfactory significance, this doesn’t obviously give me a reason to go a week without showering. Even granting the truth of evolution, why should I do what would be evolutionarily beneficial?
