Peter, my generation, sometimes makes me very pessimistic. For some, very strange and unexplainable reason, I believe that the self-centered, moi generation/the booomers, are going to weather this problem, continue to raise, help, and love our families and, in the end, die with at least dignity, and maybe honor.
I’m not sure why I believe that other than the fact that as we age we acknowledge the tension of perishing/imperishing and all the possibilities that entails.
I would have to day this makes me question the entire Liberal Welfare State. Society and government need to be re-built. And I think a rejection of the very concept of a Modern/Postmodern society must be a major part of that. Another possibility is to simply insure that it is social conservatives who control the reins of government, and insure they can force the subjects to behave as they should. I have a feeling that idea will not work.
