So it appears that Christie ain’t running. Pete started gushing (again) before his guy said yes. I even caved after imagining a classy contest among Romney, Christie, and Cain.

Now it’s once again Romney, Cain, and Perry can’t be counted out. Sometimes it’s darkest before it gets still darker.

My opinion of Cain continues to improve, though. I will explain why later.

Julie Ponzi at NLT was complaining about the “unseemly begging” of Christie to run of which some of us were guilty. Dan Henninger was cheery about Cain last week in the WSJ. I hope you guys are right and that you are persuasive about his candidacy. I so want to be cheerful about the coming election.

I’m really sorry Christie isn’t running. I was anticipating a good exchange over his less then endearing postion on ‘gun rights.’

Kate, I’m trying to be cheerful. Cain as president is a stretch.
