It is not deception but perception which is &quot;at the heart&quot; of these candidate booms.  Conservatives perceived Cain to be a gut-level conservative businessman - they were right.  They perceive in Gingrich an ability to make the conservative case on the stump - again, they are right.

The deception comes later; it is a mechanism to protect the perception.]]></description>
