Here are the latest. Newt now has a huge lead in Iowa and South Carolina, and is within spitting distance in New Hampshire (the victory in Iowa would give him the big mo’ required actually to spit, it would seem). So nobody has voted yet, but the question of stopping Newt is really insistent now. He’s starting to get a lot of endorsements, the Tea Party has turned its heart his direction… This is nuts!
Meanwhile, generic Republican has opened up a significant lead over the particular president. But Newt, in my view, can’t win. And probably shouldn’t win.

Newt’s a clever debater and the odds-makers are declaring he’ll make mincemeat out of Barry, should Barry go along with Newt’s ‘Lincoln-Douglas debate’ challenge. I’m not so sure. Barry can be totally incoherent, depending on the teleprompter, and his followers really don’t care.
Newt is also a very clever politican, a rascal, and a scalawag who, if elected, may end up America’s version of Lord Winston should he guide the American ship through what appears a major economic collapse.
I should hope you’d serve in the Gingrich Administration if called?

Assume that Newt is the candidate. Do you think he will net more harm than good for the Republican party if he gets elected?

To Bob–No. But the issue will never come up.
To binx–yes.
To Pete–I hope you’re right. I want to start a bring back Pawlenty movment.

I think Ron Paul is better/ more plausible and electable than Newt, but in the end I think Romney will win.
