People were instructed by the press to fear Reagan. They didn’t and that was a problem for Carter. Romney is not Reagan and that is probably what Obama has going for him, aside from race in a liberal climate.

I would just note that his political position is stronger than Carter’s in relevant ways. I don’t doubt that any president elected in 2008 would have done something like the drone program and the Bin Laden raid.
