Our John observes in the thread (from Texas) that nobody he knows is actually voting for Romney. That’s not as true for me, but it is true that nobody I know in the “persuadable” category is doing so. In this respect, Mitt’s campaign is starting to remind us all more and more of McCain’s. Actually, McCain this time would at least be able to take it to Obama on the collapse of his foreign policy. Right now, Obama is fading rather quickly in terms of confidence in his foreign policy leadership, but confidence in Romney as a world leader isn’t growing.
So let me say that YOU should vote for Romney. He would be a better president than he is a candidate. And Romney’s situation isn’t hopeless, after all, assuming his campaign gets better and does well as a debater. Romney, unlike McCain, has plenty of money. Let’s start hoping that he starts to use it effectively to get some sort of message out. Pete is right that Ryan might have to be unleashed as messenger-in-chief, with the double-wide commercials and all.

Romney is a rich pariah who simply can’t identify with ANY average American through his fog of lies and network of havened money. He’ll only continue to get booed out of the room by every group of minority and middle class voters he comes across. His religion and wealth is highly elitist and everyone in this country has had it with his kind. We’re telling Mitt he can’t buy this election! Right, Brandt. The election is Obama’s for the buying.

Some of Mitt’s comments lately have initiated a warm glow in my heart. Is it possible that as Mitt leans rightward Bob will forsake his decision to remain a pure republican? To be honest I grow wobbly in the face of our evil and corrupt president. I do think if he gets one more term, the country’s done for.

Mitt doesn’t seem to have a serious plan to address the nation’s #1 problem, namely the fact that we’re completely up a creek financially, which is mostly the fault of the Dems & the media for convincing the public that there’s absolutely nothing in the federal budget that can possibly be cut without women, children, and the elderly dying in the streets in numbers not seen since the Black Death itself. Never mind that if the federal government just spent what they spent in 2007 there would be no deficit…
Plus, of course, he supported TARP and instituted Romneycare, and shows no serious sign of wanting to actually repeal Obamacare.
Finally, I’m personally near-distraught that my HOPE for Romney would be that he uses Executive Orders as freely as Obama has, to undo all the awful stuff that Obama instituted and that the last Congress jammed through. When that’s the hope, it’s clear the Republic has gone seriously off the rails.

Now, I must confess I am as bewildered by your endorsement of Mitt Romney as I am by Mitt Romney’s campaign. There are absolutely no reasons whatever in what you have written to convince anyone that “Mitt Romney would make a better President than a candidate.” Not one.
The only real reason offered by anybody, including Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, for electing Mitt Romney President is that he is “not Obama”.
Now, frankly, I think American Conservatives have simply lost their grip on common sense and public reality because they cannot tell the difference Mitt Romney and Not Obama.
Not Obama will not appear on the ballot, Mitt Romney will. I would challenge anyone here to take the sentence: So let me say that YOU should vote for Mitt Romney–and put five clear sentences under it telling me why, without referring in any way to either John McCain or Barack Obama.
I don’t think you can do it, I don’t think your readers can do it, I don’t think all the speakers and campaign surrogates that barely mention his name in their speeches on the stump can do it, and I don’t think Mitt Romney can do it.
Perhaps 30-40% of the voting public will, without any urging, walk up to the voting machine in order to vote for Not Obama. They don’t have to be convinced to vote for Mitt Romney. About 40-50% clearly want to vote for Barack Obama. They cannot be convinced to vote for Mitt Romney.
All the rest are simply not interested in Not Obama, since Not Obama isn’t running. They have to be convinced to vote FOR one of the two candidates. Barack Obama and his campaign have consistently told us why we should vote for him. Mitt Romney and his campaign have told us virtually nothing about why we should vote for him. All they’ve told us is why we should vote for Not Obama.
This is why Mitt Romney will lose, and why he will take down Republican Senate candidates and Republican House candidates with him. And all because American Conservatives (including Mitt Romney) can no longer tell the difference between a Presidential candidate and a long-standing grudge.
When you all come back in 2016, be sure you bring a real candidate with you and some real reasons why we should elect him.

Obama is a rich demagogue who simply can’t identify with ANY average American through his fog of lies and network of havened money. He’ll only continue to get worshiped in every room of class-envy voters he comes across. His lack of religion and wealth is highly elitist and everyone in this country has had it with his kind. I think the Republican party had lost it’s way conservatively, but the integration of the tea party has brought them back to where they should be, and for the most part are listening to their constituents. While Mitt Romney wasn’t my pick in the primary, I Will Vote Mitt, and here’s why.
#1 I will vote for a candidate that respects the life of an unborn child in the womb.
#2 We are in a financial crisis, I want someone experienced in business, some one successful, someone who understands you cannot spend $10 for every $6 taken in.
#3 I would like a President who has had hands on experience in leadership roles, both political and commercially.
#4 I will vote for a candidate that respects the traditional institution of marriage, I will vote my Christian values.
#5 I will vote for a man that will not apologize to the people who are attacking our embassies and burning our flag. Someone who will take some action for the atrocity that was committed on our people in Libya.
#6 And finally, I will vote for someone willing to put on the “Big Boy Pants”. do the job and take responsibility for his administration’s success or failure, whichever it is. NOT a man who continually blames his failures on previous administrations. I am sooooo sick of the whining, crybaby crap.
So Joseph, there’s 6 reasons.

Thanks, George. Though you may not believe it, I’m quite happy to be proved wrong. It is far more intelligent and useful than the thousands of conservatives who spend most of their time either flaming Obama, or who cannot make your points without frothing at the mouth. My best to you.
