It’s a strange movie. Brilliant and hilarious, but far more of a farce than his other movies, far removed from anything like reality, probably because as you said it’s not his generation he’s writing about anymore.

What ARE we supposed to think of Violet and her posse? I’m still not quite sure.

I thought it ended incredibly abruptly. Almost confusingly abruptly.

PS. I first heard about Northern Soul in Last Night A DJ Saved My Life, where it received pride of place in a discussion of DJ cultures of recent times. England is small enough geographically that it might be able to support this sort of thing much better than America, but then America is big enough population wise that it should be able to do so here as well.
