Let's not forget all of the coverage of Tea Partiers allegedly spitting at black lawmakers who walked through a rally on Capitol Hill, or of the guy who showed up to a town hall meeting with an assault rifle (and who turned out to be a Democrat). It all culminated in the spectacle of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert holding an ironic rally on the mall in DC that drew a few hundred thousand people. It really is quite astounding how differently these union protests, and even Occupy, were covered (or not covered).

You're being far too kind to the MSM. The last few days have shown them to be the worst sort of jackals, vipers, vampires, and whatever other non-human epithet one would wish to hurl.

The pictures they took and published of grieving parents, family members, children, etc., are despicable and unconscionable. These are not "public figures" and running these photos without the tiniest bit of checking to see who they are, what might be going on, etc., shows them to be utterly without the basics of human decency.

Nearly every "fact" that was reported within the first 12+ hours of the story has been proven to be completely wrong. I don't care if things were confusing, they were told wrong info, or whatever. It is obvious that once something was published somewhere, other outlets were just parroting it as "Fact" so as not to get "scooped" since clearly that would be The Worst Thing Ever. They have clearly abandoned any pretense of fact checking, research, or anything of the sort.

As for the political implications and messaging, let's not even get started there...

I would just point out that the leftwing "peer effects" you refer to go far beyond people in "academia" and "entertainment." Leftism is the default mode of thought for the overwhelming majority of people in the professions and, in "blue" states, for college-educated business executives, too (except maybe on some economic and fiscal issues) - even if they occasionally hold their noses and actually vote for Republicans.

If you are getting punched often enough, you can ask your employer for more money.

But don't worry if you tried this tactic to get a raise, your employer would catch on and argue that you staged the beating.

Show me that it resulted in a pay raise for the reporter, and we can agree that it was "authenticated" as something other than a non-staged/astroturf beating for Faux News.

After all if union workers are really dangerous don't reporters deserve some combat pay?

Your argument for civility is just an example of always taking the employers interest. You should immediately be asking for a raise...after all Michigan is a dangerous place!
