"But I get the sense from this blog that conservatives shouldn’t be proud of the entrepreneurial spirit. No?"

That sense is mistaken as the subject is never even hinted at, but thank you for your spirited defense of your point of view. It is an informative read into a mindset shared by millions of hardworking people.

I may be naive but the "built that" rhetoric really appeals to those of us in the "gig economy" slugging it out every day, bearing all the risk, paying our own healthcare 100%, not taking a dime of handouts, not rich but making a living, and squelched under the boot of taxation.

We make more than the median income, but by the time we finish paying "our fair share" we're practically the same as everyone else. You feel like you should have worked less instead of busting your butt to pay more to Uncle Sam.

Anyhow, as the self-employed we view ourselves as job creators. We create our own jobs and create networks of people who share work and opportunities. It's hard not to feel resentful - not of the poor, but the bureaucrats and politicians who have no idea what it means to make a living.

I saw Ted Cruz, my senator, on FNS. While I'm not a fan of his style I agree fully with his "opportunity conservatism" rhetoric. I felt that was the message of many convention speakers, all rising from immigrant or minority backgrounds to be successful at what they do. That's a positive message in my eyes. But I get the sense from this blog that conservatives shouldn't be proud of the entrepreneurial spirit. No?
