I am more and more convinced (and have been for near 10 years) that the DoI in the logic of the 2nd paragraph does not follow the logic of the Lockean (Hobbesian). The logic of the DoI leads one to a much much more expansionistic view of the natural rights that men have and have a right to keep and gov’t has the duty to secure than the what Locke (or Hobbes) will lead us to acknowledge.

I love to read Dan Mahoney’s piece.. because I suspect it one resting liberty upon the exercise of prudence on finds within human nature rather than abstract theoretical principles.
