A great question and one worth the price of admission; just to hear your answer. As for me, I’m starting to lean toward Carl’s theme of communal guilt. Barry’s the result of our national sins, our rejection, not to mention mockery, of the Word, our licentiousness, etc. Barry’s God’s judgement on the nation? I like that, it has a certain directness one reads in the Old Testament.
