Some postmodern yet conservative thoughts by ME here, with a link to a good article by our friend Sam Goldman.

I am all about the cultural transmission of the “automatic” vs. “manual” meme you quip about.
Cultural transmission of course is a meme about meme, or a translation of meme. In the sense of “automatic” vs. “manual” then it is literally also “beating a dead horse”, as we can see that we are post-Western(in the wild west American sense).
When letters were the mode of communication, ideas did travel on horse-back. At some point Ideas and the people with those ideas began to travel in cars, both to spread and to escape the inertia of ideas too long rooted.
Of course in the real world there shutin’ Detroit down…or Detroit is booming again if you like a “silver linning”… of course and I am not sure…but a silver linning seems to be a really functional meme in regards automatic transmissions and vehicles. That is some ball bearings in your transmission as well as the key membrane switches and the contacts all use silver.
Silver as a metal is key I believe to automatic transmissions…
In terms of a budget deficit idea for the state of Ohio, loosely based on nothing more than meme deconstruction…it is ironic that both Ohio and Michigan as key vehicle manufacturers have a local legal system most based upon “beating a dead horse”…or perhaps not having to beat a dead horse… That is with 88 counties Ohio originally(at its founding) wanted folks to be able to travel to a courthouse from one county to another in one days time…without having to beat a horse to death… To not be too radical (we don’t want to leave out the oldtimers who still use horses..and watch antenna tv?) we could probably make do with 44 counties.
Of course truth be told this would probably kill some local jobs and piss of the only folks who really give a damn, i.e. have skin in the game. Also history teaches us that changing districts and zoning commissions are the real reason the French Revolution failed, but this is because france was a collection of serfdom and geographic indicators not amenable to Cartesian tinkering. Champagne France is someplace special, in geographic indicator terms…but is Champaign Ohio?
You could combine it with Logan county and still not get 100k pop.
Question for “Liberals” are rural red state affiliations with republicans and a sense of waste/redundancy at bottom simply about: “Beating a dead horse”?
