Wesley J. Smith

As President Obama’s health care prescription has sunk steadily in the polls, a few of its (and his) supporters are pulling the race card.  The latest example is an African-American Congresswoman named Diane Watson (a radical I remember very well from my days in LA). From the story:

They are spreading fear and they’re trying to see that the first president who looks like me — fails. Now just understand what’s at the bottom line.

This line of argument would not only fail to help Obamacare, it could destroy Obama’s presidency.  He ran as a post-racial candidate and even his political opponents are thrilled that a terrible barrier to African-American advancement has been shattered.  But being post-racial means that he should take his brickbats as well as his praises without regard to the irrelevancy of his racial heritage. For his own sake, as well as the country’s, I think the president should personally reject this kind of divisive and destructive argumentation.

I don’t think Watson’s love affair for Castro and Che (a mass murderer) helps the president’s cause, either:

Did anyone say anything about the Cuban health system?  And let me tell you, you need to go down there and see what Fidel Castro put in place. And let me tell you, you can think what you want about Fidel Castro, but he is one of the brightest leaders I have ever met. And you know the Cuban Revolution that kicked out the wealthy–Che Guevara did that–and then after they took over, they went out among the population to find someone who could lead this new nation, and they found…an attorney named Fidel Castro.

That’s not great history, and it sure doesn’t speak well for Watson’s belief in democracy.  But more of that, please. It will really kill Obamacare.

So it _is_ all about him after all. “Just want to see someone who looks like me fail.” What a whiner.

When the president and the politicians publicly state that at this point they don’t care what’s IN the bill, they just want to get SOMETHING to pass, then they can morph it into what ever they want it to be later they have assured that the public is well aware that it is NOT US they are concerned about, but some agenda that WILL benefit those who push it. It is not now or EVER been about concern for the public at large, but for a small group of people, who seem to be wagging the tail of the dog. After that comment, I’ll see to it that EVERYONE i know, and EBERYONE they know, vote and protest against it……….

As far as I’m able to determine all the President’s duties are spelled out in the Constitution — not determined by Wesley Smith.

Obama is the most divisive president we’ve had in my life. GW Bush polarized the American people, but he never said, “if you don’t believe what I’m doing is right, then you are wicked.” But that’s what the Obama camp is doing.

It’s quite obvious that the administration is trying to take advantage of the polarization of Catholics (who could be an important voting blok) by appointing pro-abortion Catholics to high positions and otherwise rewarding Catholics who are not against abortion, trying to paint those who are as “hide-bound” and “backwards” (in other words, “bad”) while those who agree with abortion as progressive and enlightened (in other words, “good”). This is the same stratey the administration intends to use on everyone — watch out, folks!

[...] I said this before, and it is growing more urgent because it is not just the Marxist radical fringe anymore, evidence Dowd: Obama should disavow all racial politics, most especially from his friends.  It has the potential to both destroy his presidency and tear this country apart. [...]
