This is a good news story I have been meaning to post for a week. There is an old Jewish saying, “When you save a life, you save the world.” If that is so, my wonderful friend and executive director of the CBC, Jennifer Lahl, has saved the world.
Last week, Jennifer and her husband Dan were celebrating their wedding anniversary at their favorite restaurant. Suddenly, a diner at another table keeled over and fell out of her chair. She wasn’t breathing. Jennifer, who is a nurse as well as holding a master’s degree in bioethics, rushed over and quickly gave mouth-to-mouth. The woman revived, coughed, and asked, “What happened?” She was soon taken to the hospital by paramedics.
So, a life was saved, and the restaurant gave the Lahls dinner on the house. Who says good deeds don’t pay?
Way to go, Jennifer!

Actually, I used my herculean strength and lifted her out of her chair to get her onto the floor :) It will be an anniversary to remember!

That’s wonderful. But what the heck is Bioethics, really, and since when is it necessary to give degrees in it? That’s not what enabled her or impelled her to save a life, either — it’s her being a nurse that did that. And being a nurse is more than honorable enough for anybody plus most of them are smarter than the doctors. Why did she take a step backwards? Bioethics is necessary to advance in the nursing profession now? That’s part of the culture of death. The patients are safer with good nurses than they are with bioethicists in hospitals, that’s for sure.

Of course Ms. Lahl saved a life literally — there’s no other way. I don’t mean that what’s what she did isn’t wonderful and that she shouldn’t be applauded for it; what I mean is that the institution of “bioethics” is in conflict with it. What is the CBC, by the way?

Ianthe: I consult with the CBC. It is the Center for Bioethics and Culture and they promote things you would agree with.
