There have been interesting polling, occasionally reported here, about how the country seems to be moving in a pro life direction, with the Gallup Poll now showing a majority opposing abortion.  One reason seems to be that improved imaging techniques have verified the humanity of gestating life.  That is sure what happened with Abby Johnson, who quit her position as head of a local Planned Parenthood chapter, and indeed, now works with pro lifers to help persuade women to make the choice of giving birth. From the story:

Planned Parenthood has been a part of Abby Johnson’s life for the past eight years; that is until last month, when Abby resigned. Johnson said she realized she wanted to leave, after watching an ultrasound of an abortion procedure. “I just thought I can’t do this anymore, and it was just like a flash that hit me and I thought that’s it,” said Jonhson.

She handed in her resignation October 6. Johnson worked as the Bryan Planned Parenthood Director for two years. According to Johnson, the non-profit was struggling under the weight of a tough economy, and changing it’s business model from one that pushed prevention, to one that focused on abortion. “It seemed like maybe that’s not what a lot of people were believing any more because that’s not where the money was. The money wasn’t in family planning, the money wasn’t in prevention, the money was in abortion and so I had a problem with that,” said Johnson.

If Johnson’s charge is true about being told to intentionally push abortion for financial reasons, Planned Parenthood cannot credibly claim to be a dispassionate family planning/women empowering organization.  Rather, it has an agenda that is both ideological and financially motivated.  Since PP receives millions in taxpayer dollars, I think Johnson’s charge should be investigated.

Planned Parenthood seems to be afraid that word will get out that it “has an agenda that is both ideological and financially motivated.” Hence the restraining order.

Thank God for 40 Days for Life. I bet their prayers went a long way.

I also want to know where Ms. Johnson saw the abortion ultrasound.

To look at murder and call it something else is incomprehensible to me. The left is so conflicted that there is nothing decent for them to hold onto . . . yet they continue.

Consumer Reports tested the condoms provided by Planned Parenthood and found they were at the very bottom. The two worst condoms rated by Consumer Reports were from Planned Parenthood.

Dare I say that PP is planning to make their clients parents so they can provide the more expensive abortion after their condoms fail?

QUICK!!! Pass a law that prohibits the use of ultrasound machines during abortions. After all, the “fetus” might be injured and a birth defect might be the result…..assuming (on a hypothetical basis, mind you) that a live birth were to take place……..as it were……..you know. Yeh, thaaaaaaaaat’s it.

I applaud this woman for having the courage to do the right thing even when it meant giving up her income. That has been a stumbling block for many PP workers in our area who have come to believe that what they are doing isn’t right. It would be even more wonderful if this woman would have the opportunity to speak before Congress and give details of what she saw and heard as an insider in the PP organization. Pro-lifers have believed for many years that PP is a profit motivated organization and its greatest profits have come from abortions.

So if it’s moving in a pro-life direction how did the country elect Obama, and why hasn’t he been tossed out of the White House and his cronies out of Washington?

I don’t know about PP being a profit motivated organization, I just don’t know, but the same ones who want that stuff also seem to want old people to die. Liberals, what do you expect….

God bless Ms. Johnson, and thank God for turning one more mind to the light.

To answer lanthe, the slimestream media simply chose not to do its job. In their zeal to elect [Obama] they chose to sweep anything unsavory or unappealing about him, such as his ultra-cruel abortion stance, under the rug.

Our religious ideas should have no bearing or influence on laws set forth by the US or state govts– we are not a theocracy.

That being said, the law of the land and common sense tells us that murdering babies is wrong, therefore abortion for convenience should be outlawed.

But I support abortion in very rare cases, such as the mothers health being in extreme danger or the baby is severely deformed/sick/genetic defect.

    Mr. Crawford:

“‘We have invented happiness,’ the last men say, and blink.”

Well, I’m glad that’s all worked out, then.

But wait — whence do our common sensations, not to mention the laws of our land, originate? Or any other morality or ethic, for that matter? There are two consistent answers, irrevocably opposed to each other: the transcendant law, and the will to power. Anything else is an illusion waiting to be revealed as such, and thus destroyed.

Kit: Thanks. But the slimestream media did its job all right — the job of the slimestream media. What the local paper did to my mother (well me too but at least I’m still alive) is another example. All this stuff doesn’t happen in a vacuum.

On rereading the post, it looks like Planned Parenthood IS a money-motivated organization. Abortion still doesn’t bother me the way treatment of the elderly and the disabled who are already in possession of life outside the womb, or vivisection and other forms of abuse of non-human animals does. But I don’t think it should be extraordinary, or considered unusually laudable, that this woman spoke up. It would have been wrong if she hadn’t, and it’s wrong every time somebody doesn’t. Many staff of the hospital and “guardianship” organization that murdered my mother were upset about it, but didn’t speak up or try to do anything to stop it, because their incomes and livelihood and jobs were more important to them than a human life. That’s not acceptable. What kind of people ARE those?

    Ianthe
    November 3rd, 2009 | 10:31 pm

And by the way, the ‘guardianship’ organization is Catholic Charities of the local diocese, d/b/a “Catholic Family Center.” I was referring to people at the diocese, as well. The one headed by a bishop most Catholics in town despise, but having been raised in the Catholic Church they find it inconceivable to challenge “authority” as necessary. A bishop whom, I’ve been told, and it wouldn’t surprise me if what I’ve been told is true, the current Pope, as a Cardinal, called to Rome to “correct” more than once, and yet he’s still bishop, and made, on information and belief, and it certainly is consistent with the rest of what I witnessed, the wife of a convicted felon (class a-1 felony drug dealing, spent some years in state prison for it) head of the “guardianship” (Catholic Family Center) organization that the diocese claims really isn’t part of itself and says “many people are unhappy with CFC and that is a systemic problem we’ll be addressing in the coming months and years but not in time to help your mother.” No wonder Planned Parenthood, abortion, futile care theory, Obamacare, and the death culture are problems, despite the “stance” of the Catholic Church and the anguish of those who believe in its professed doctrine. Oh, my, they’re going to try to give me a hard time publicly again. They did tell me I had more guts than anyone they ever met. They should remember that. One of them is head of the local council of churches; don’t ask me what kind of a community it is. They’ve got a whole bunch of money and are always shilling for more; shades of Planned Parenthood. I’ve always been glad not to be Catholic, and I feel bad for you people. But not as bad as I feel for those outside the Catholic Church whom it’s harmed. Can’t you get yourselves together to straighten out your own Church? Obviously not. In any event, the religious approach isn’t the one that can end the Culture of Death.

Bob: That’s a pretty good description of the Left. They continue BECAUSE they have nothing to hold onto.

Just saw something online about Obama’s half brother says their father was abusive. My father always said that a hand must never be raised to a child. A look in his eyes, a quiet tone of voice, was able to teach more than corporal punishment ever could. He was a very wise man. The abuse destroys and is passed on, in this case from Obama to the helpless. A whole bunch of leftists and abortion proponents seem to have been abused as children, too. They kind of know each other and band together and cause all kinds of trouble.

What’s the point? One person makes a career change and it’s news? I know a young lady who abandoned a career in funeral service because she didn’t like the idea of poking a trocar into someone’s abdomen when embalming them. I guess she “saw the light.” Maybe God answered the prayers of all the “direct cremation” folks. And I didn’t see it mentioned in The New York Times either. Just can’t trust the media I guess. Or maybe folks are reading too much into this because it tells them what they like to hear.

Save your pity, Ianthe. I too wish Catholics would be Catholics, but there are lukewarm ‘believers’ in every camp. Look at the Protestant denominations which now ordain someone in an openly homosexual relationship. They had to twist the scripture into a pretzel to see that as an acceptable outcome.

Look at what just happened with the bishop of Providence and Kennedy. And people are defending Kennedy, as if his (and others’) speaking from both sides of his mouth was defensible. If your community wants to harbor this guy in spite of his censure by the Vatican, then who exactly is supposed to fix it? Don’t look at me; it’s a large country and I have no idea where you live.
