If these stories are true–and I believe they are–China is a monster state. I have previously covered credible charges that Falun Gong prisoners are killed and their organs sold, stating that while there was not enough proof for a “conviction” beyond a reasonable doubt, the evidence would certainly justify a “search warrant,” thus compelling, it seemed to me, concerted international investigations.
That hasn’t happened. Now, new charges have been leveled that not only are Falun Gong still being preyed upon and their organs sold, but so too are Tibetans and other dissidents. From the story:
In a news conference on Capitol Hill, several speakers, including attorney David Matas of B’nai Brith Canada and Ethan Gutmann of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, said their investigations have unearthed a grisly trade in which an estimated 9,000 members of Falun Gong have been executed for their corneas, lungs, livers, kidneys and skins.
They likened the practice to the Nazi treatment of Jewish prisoners in World War II concentration camps, which included using them for sadistic medical experiments and taking the gold fillings from the teeth of corpses. The newest wrinkle, they said, is that organs from other religious prisoners — specifically dissidents from China’s Christian, Muslim and Tibetan Buddhist communities — are also being harvested to satisfy an insatiable global demand. “These groups are useless to the state,” Mr. Gutmann said. “They are toxic, so you can’t release them. But they’re worth a great deal of money in terms of their organs.” Organs from just one person can fetch a total of $100,000 on the worldwide market, he added.”…
The charges of organ harvesting and its spread to other religious and ethnic groups were made by the researchers and activists based on their extensive interviews with former prisoners and families of prisoners, and based on analysis of statistics, including health numbers, released by the Chinese government.
So, where are our leaders complaining about human rights abuses? You don’t hear them, either? Perhaps we’ve sold our soul to China along with our children’s inheritance.
But then again, the essential “I know nothing!” parties to this sordid business are the organ buyers–like Larry Asa Rose–who proudly wrote all about his experiences in the Chinese organ trade in the “uproarious” Larry’s Kidney. After all, without people like him, there wouldn’t be any place for sellers to peddle their organs.

An idea: How could we try to get a campaign going to ask major booksellers–Amazon, Barnes & Noble–not to sell _Larry’s Kidney_. We could use the evidence of organ cannibalism from executed political prisoners as an argument that the book should be shunned.

Lydia: I don’t support overt censorship. But I keep bringing it up in the hope that people will not buy the book and scorn its author.

The more Nanny States develope, the easier it is to lose our individuality & rights to power mongers who deem themselves to be conscience of society even though they lack a conscience. I am not surprised that mining organs would thrive in China and that political dissidents would pay the ultimate price with their lives. After all they killed almost 100 million of their own citizens and buried them in scrap heaps since Maoism took hold. Their crime was speaking out against the Nanny State because they saw the loss of individual freedom would lead to this moment in time.
I also think an educated shunning & scorning is much more intelligent & less dangerous approach then censorship.

I think that it is important for folks to read Kidney first & then to weigh the expose by David Matas & David Kilgor in order to see just how wrong it is to ignore the unethical approach of China & Kidney in their evil track records. When people reach the level of darkness that China & Kidney have and not see how they have lost their Souls it is an important lesson for all of us.

As far as I’m concerned, Amazon and B & N are private companies, and if they don’t sell it, it’s the same thing as people’s refusing to buy it. One doesn’t want them to sell, say, videos of animal torture, either, so it seems perfectly legitimate for booksellers to exercise judgment as to what is inappropriate and should be shunned at their level.

Yes, where are our leaders? Why are they not denouncing China’s deplorable record on human rights?
Indeed, the leaders of the wealthiest nation on earth – one that continually bombs other countries over fictitious evidence, has among the highest levels of poverty in the developed world, leaves up to 15% of its citizens without responsible health care, spends nearly 60% of its national discretionary budget on a killing institution, has the highest incarceration rates in the developed world, and permits mass financial fraud at the expense of poor people – clearly have the moral authority to denounce the shortcomings of other countries while neglecting their own.
But, then again, the folks in our consumerist economy would rather buy a continuous stream of poorly made garbage from polluting and tyrannical China. Little Johnny better have a cool looking Chinese made bat to accompany his complete lack of ability to put it on the ball – no child deserves to look foolish when they repeatedly strike out in suburbia’s little league. And hey, if we can go into debt over financing our athletic aspirations, even better!
So, I guess it is easier to blame the “leaders” we, the people, elect rather than accept the blame ourselves.
Anyways, folks, just stop buying garbage from China. It’s a dishonest nation with a terrible record on human rights.

I have a higher opinion of social security, I guess; I wouldn’t call it a killing institution, though after Obama’s death panels start operating…. And I’d be happy if our leaders would pay for health care for 15% of the US population, but out of their own money, not taxes.
I can, however, tell the difference between stealing kidneys or making human lampshades, and imprisoning criminals. Apparently some people can’t.
