I don’t get paid to blog.  But it isn’t free–for my host.

First Things supports SHS and a wide range of other blogging types by supplying us gratis with broadband and the IT necessary to keep things running smoothly. I deeply appreciate this support and the wider audience that coming to FT has provided Secondhand Smoke.

To help defray these costs, FT is running a fund raising special.  And it is doing so in a way that offers real value for the buck.  If you go to this link, you can subscribe to First Things magazine for only $19.95 a year, with the money so raised directed to supporting the FT blogs.  The promo code for this offer is “SHS.” That’s half off rate, a real value for very little money–one might even call it a bargain and a half!  Anyone who just wants to make a small (or large) donation without (or in addition to) subscribing, can hit this link.

Again, none of the money raised goes to me.  Thank you. We now resume our regular programming.

I am already a subscriber, Wesley; is there a place I can make a donation?

Thanks for the offer, but is there a way for us international subscribers to make the most of the deal?

    Wesley J. Smith Reply:

I’m inquiring. More when I know more. Thanks Thomas Pietsch.

Thomas Pietsch: This is what I learned:

We do take overseas subscriptions but unfortunately we can’t apply the discount to them. The cost to print and mail them overseas already costs almost as much as we charge for the subscription. (That can be ordered here: https://ssl.drgnetwork.com/ecom/fst/cgi/subscribe/order?org=FST&publ=FT, though its cheaper for people overseas just to get the digital access.)
