Secondhand Smokette is now Tweeting and blogging at the SF Chronicle. I told her that made us Tweetie Pies.

I’m pretty sure the galactic fox should be saying “I’m sorry, I was tweeting….”

There once was a site called Twitter
where (though I’m sure this will make you titter)
    one neither twittered not twitted.
Instead there were tweets, many half-witted,
but at one-hundred-forty, they were blessedly limited.

    Human Exceptionalism?
You’re right. No other species would dare make such a dreadful pun. “Tweetie Pies” indeed — jeesh! ;-)

    Yes. But I was proud.

“In actuality, assisted suicide ideology believes we have absolute ownership of our bodies, and as a consequence,–either implicitly or explicitly–we should be entitled to assisted suicide for whatever reason we want.”

So tell me, Wesley, if I don’t have “absolute ownership” of my body, who does? No cliches, no evasions, just a straight answer please.

    Wesley J. Smith Reply:

No you don’t. Society can stop you from burning yourself repeated with cigarettes, taking heroin, and killing yourself, just to name a few things. You can’t sell yourself into slavery or prostitute yourself. We live in the context of a society and while personal liberty is very important, it is not absolute.

HistoryWriter: God has absolute ownership of your body, in that He has the right to tell you what you can and cannot do to it and with it, because He planned your life “before the foundation of the world”, before He created anything. That doesn’t mean He doesn’t allow you to make choices about how you treat your body or what you do with it, He most certainly does. You are responsible for your choices and will answer one day to Him for those choices in light of the commandments and guidelines He has given you about how He wants you to live (i.e. the Bible). Just as in our civil realm I can be ignorant of a law or laws, but if I break one or more I’m still guilty, just as though I had knowledge of the law but was willfully disobedient. You can pretend God doesn’t exist and/or that His laws don’t apply to you, but that doesn’t change what is true, nor does it absolve you of responsibility or help you avoid the consequences in this life or in the final judgment.
