President Obama stated the obvious yesterday when he supported gay marriage. That issue is beyond our jurisdiction here. However, I would be remiss if I failed to note the president’s hollow hypocrisy when he claimed to “respect” religious institutions that disagree—given his current authoritarianism against the First Amendment right of religious institutions to follow their doctrines with regard to health services. Here’s the O quote:

I respect the beliefs of others, and the right of religious institutions to act in accordance with their own doctrines. But I believe that in the eyes of the law, all Americans should be treated equally.

So, what does that mean?  Not a thing. Obama’s position will continue to ”evolve” to the point that he will force religious institutions to “obey the law” even if their religious doctrines reject same sex marriage.

Consider: Obama is requiring Catholic institutions to provide medical services such as birth control, sterilization surgery, and abortifacient drugs—knowing that doing so violates their religious doctrines. To be consistent with the ”Free Birth Control” rule, Obama can be expected to not require churches to actually marry gay people at the altar, but to force religious institutions to provide such couples with all the benefits and recognitions accorded to heterosexual married couples—even if the church doctrines reject SSM and consider homosexual activities sinful.

But, of course, there is no real diversity or tolerance allowed in a bureaucratic state.  That is just sweet talk when the army is outside the gate.  Once, they take the castle, the state’s morality trumps all.
