Pianogirl sent this my way, wondering how one would ask a friend to water the plants while on vacation.

But I think it’s kind of pretty, in an eccentric, wonderful way. Very much a “make your own garden/bloom where you are planted” sort of thing. And I’m a sucker for geraniums and begonias.
Speaking of water, Victor Davis Hanson talks about water rights, relates them to Obama’s foreign policy, and makes a lot of sense, you’re want to read him.
Here’s another nice pic from Pianogirl, in Alba, Italy:

UPDATE: Completely off topic, but also nice: Fr. iPadre shows off his new Adoration candle holders, which he designed and made, himself.
Not so nice: Jimmy Carter still hates Israel and is applauding Obama’s dropping of a key clause regarding Jerusalem

I absolutely love the courtyard garden! If you haven’t seen the movie Return to Me (excellent chick flick) watch it – there’s a similar garden in the courtyard behind the Chicago restaurant in the movie. Beautiful!

VDH is famously bad at historical analogies, but this takes the cake.
He was bullied as a young man and had to stick up for himself because his neighbor was a jerk. So f’ing what?
This experience has haunted him so much that 30 years later he feels he can teach the President of the United States a few things about nuclear proliferation because, hey – remember that one time when he stood up to the mean farmer next door? It’s TOTALLY the same thing as fighting two wars, fighting Al-Qaeda, dealing with the EU etc. Totally the same!
His entire column is devoted to his own vivid recollection of this life changing event – the day he became a man – the day he finally stopped letting people push him around and stuck up for himself. I’m sorry that VDH didn’t learn this lesson until he was 26. Most of us deal with this on the playground before our 10th birthday. Better late than never, but it doesn’t have a damn bit of relevance to international diplomacy and national defense in the year 2009

James Earl Carter, Jr. was, in my view, the absolute worst president in the 20th century and may be (against some stiff competition) the complete worst in history. It seems to me that he is suffering from dementia and always was a nasty, anti-semitic old fart! For his sake, his family should corral him and lock him up where he cannot disgrace himself, his country and his family any further!
