Not to be too curmudgeonly, but the ICEL translation “Flower of Jesse” is just awful linguistically and dead wrong theologically. The sisters’ translation is correct: Jesus is the Root of Jesse…his creator and his descendant. It’s important to the Incarnation and to the Advent theme of redemption.
