My podcast reading the Nativity Narrative of the Gospel of St. Luke

UPDATE: “Teach them to watch the star that leads to the baby. A must-read. One to save to re-read in mid-year, when both Christmas and Easter are have passed, and we’ve begun to forget. (H/T)

More giving…and…Even more

A very generous little kid who must have good parenting.

À vous, ma chère Anchoress, et à toute votre famille, je vous souhaite un très Joyeux Noël!

God bless you and keep you well. I’ll keep you and your dear Dominican nuns in my thoughts at Midnight Mass.

I enclose this poem by Wendy Cope which appeared in the Christmas edition of the British magazine The Spectator:

    “CATHEDRAL CAROL SERVICE

Those of us who are not important enough
To have places reserved for us
And who turned up too late to get a seat at all,
Stand in the nave aisles, or perch on stone ledges.

We shiver in the draught from the west door.
We cannot see the choir, the altar or the candles.
We can barely see the words on our service sheets.

But we can hear the music. And we can sing
For the baby whose parents were not important enough
To have a place reserved for them,
And who turned up too late to get a room at all.”

    Merry Christmas.

Sad to see the dissenting Jesuit at the end of this post touting the feminist views on Mary which dissent from established church teaching.

**It’s tough to relate to someone who’s supposed to be God’s mom, isn’t it?**

No, it isn’t. Not at all.

I agree, Greta, practically the whole piece was sad, as well as confused as to who and what Mary is really like.

You are a stupid, hateful bitch. God does not exist. You have wasted your life believing in it, and deep down inside, you know it.

    December 28th, 2009 | 9:14 am | #23

Ah, Rob, thank you for your fine example of the courtesy and warm-heartedness of the unbeliever.

Anchoress, thank you for so often gleaning wonderful things for me to read. Sometimes I get lazy or frustrated and don’t spend the time in prayer or reading things which would help. Your column often points me in the direction I should go.

    Merry Christmas!

Hey Rob – funny thing? Your rudeness pisses me off a lot more than it does our hostess, of that I’m sure. And you know what else? Despite your rudeness, I have no doubt that you will benefit from the benevolence of this wonderful woman who spends so much of her time in prayer for so many of us.

Don’t be surprised when you are touched by the hand of He whom you accuse of not existing, and your icy heart turns and you BELIEVE!

May He who surely does exist, bless you!
