First Things is happy to accept unsolicited manuscripts. The guidelines are as follows:
Opinions: 1,000-2,000 words
Feature Articles: 3,000-5,000 words
Review Essays: 3,000-5,000 words
Book Reviews: 1,500-1,800 words
Manuscripts should be typed in Microsoft Word, double-spaced. Also, please use only one space after periods and other punctuation in manuscripts.
Please do not include footnotes or endnotes in your manuscript, as they will not be published, either in the magazine or online. Also, we do not accept simultaneous submissions or previously published material-including material published on the author’s own website.
If submitting a Daily Article for the First Things website, please note that we do not embed hyperlinks in running text: A discrete list of references usually runs at the end of the article.
Ideally, manuscripts should be submitted via email to ft@firstthings.com.
