McCain is down in the national polls well beyond the margin of error with less than a month to go, so a change in strategy seems imperative. Our own Peter Lawler suggests , among other things, that McCain start focusing on the blank check an Obama victory would be to a very unpopular and very irresponsible Democrat controlled Congress. If McCain can persuasively make the case that their mismanagement of the economy landed us in this current crisis and that their unchecked legislative activity will surely make it worse, then he might have a miniscule chance of turning this campaign around. Just as Obama has gone out his way to link McCain to a failed administration McCain should link to Obama to a failed legislature—except in this case, the legislature isn’t retiring anytime soon.
