Ah, here we go: A group called “Catholics In Alliance” apparently has a video out that features pictures of prominent Catholics from across a wide political spectrum. Among them is Richard John Neuhaus.
No permission was given for the use of Fr. Neuhaus’ image, and, in truth, Catholics in Alliance seems to be little more than a front group for Obama’s presidential campaign. You know the kind of thing: Let’s get beyond left/right distinctions by all becoming leftists who don’t think abortion should motivate anyone’s vote in this election.
Can we state the obvious here? Faith does transcend politics, but you don’t stop doing politics merely by the assertion that you’ve transcended politics. Made in a political setting, that’s just politicsof a particularly sneaky and deceitful kind.
While I have you, can I ask you something? I’ll be quick.
Twenty-five thousand people subscribe to First Things. Why can’t that be fifty thousand? Three million people read First Things online like you are right now. Why can’t that be four million?
Let’s stop saying “can’t.” Because it can. And your year-end gift of just $50, $100, or even $250 or more will make it possible.
How much would you give to introduce just one new person to First Things? What about ten people, or even a hundred? That’s the power of your charitable support.
