Last Friday, it was reported that the USCCB had dropped plans to discuss abortion and politics at the Fall General Assembly this week in Baltimore. Now, it looks like the bishops will address the topic after all:
Another bishop who requested anonymity, confirmed to CNA that the bishops will not drop the issue of abortion or hold the conversation behind closed doors. On the contrary, they will discuss it on no less than three occasions: “in our regional groups, in executive session, and in the public session.”
As Fr. Richard John Neuhaus reminded us last Friday, “It is the business of bishops to help equip the faithful to let the splendor of moral truth shine through their life and witness as lights in the world.” Let’s hope the bishops’ meeting this week will do just that.

While I have you, can I ask you something? I’ll be quick.
Twenty-five thousand people subscribe to First Things. Why can’t that be fifty thousand? Three million people read First Things online like you are right now. Why can’t that be four million?
Let’s stop saying “can’t.” Because it can. And your year-end gift of just $50, $100, or even $250 or more will make it possible.
How much would you give to introduce just one new person to First Things? What about ten people, or even a hundred? That’s the power of your charitable support.
