During his visit to Israel last July, Barack Obama visited the southern city of Sderot, which for months had been plagued by rocket attacks from Hamas in Gaza. He said “If somebody was sending rockets into my house where my two daughters sleep at night, I would do everything in my power to stop that, and would expect Israelis to do the same thing.”
Could that have been taken as a “green light” by the Israelis? In any event, Obama’s comment is worth keeping in mind in coming weeks as we hear the predictable complaints about the “disproportionate” response of the Israelis’ military attack against Hamas in Gaza.
